Since 1997, RITS has conducted approximately 40 research projects funded at a level of more than $5 million by the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, New Jersey Highway Authority, New York Metropolitan Transportation Council, and state departments of transportation in New York, New Jersey, and Virginia. Additional research has been undertaken with the University Transportation Research Center at CUNY, Rutgers’ Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT), Virginia Tech ITS Research Center of Excellence, and Rutgers’ Center for the Advancement of Teaching.
