CAIT research in pipeline safety, technology, and security helps keep America’s 2.3 million miles of oil and gas infrastructure safe and flowing.
The projects under CAIT’s Pipeline Safety and Security Program are currently engaged in activities including:
- Integrating a growing portfolio of remote sensing technologies to assess pipeline integrity, especially following disasters
- Inventing GIS-based and other risk assessment tools and models
- Developing mobile pipeline mapping systems
- Applying technologies for leak detection, cleanup, and other safety and environmental issues
- Monitoring infrastructure for safety, security, and terrorism concerns
- Training the workforce and providing technical assistance to pipeline owners and operators
- Promoting public awareness programs
