NCAT Ignition Oven

The ignition oven is used to determine the asphalt binder content of hot mix asphalt by “burn off”. HMA material is placed in a wire cage and inserted into the oven. Simply enter in the known weight of the material prior to the “burn-off” and the ignition oven weighs and records the amount and time of “burn-off”. The final outputs determine the amount of bitumen using corrections for both the internal scale and aggregate ignition (Figure 10).
