Dynamic Modulus and NCHRP Simple Performace Test

Dynamic Modulus and NCHRP Simple Performance Test

Both the dynamic modulus (E*) and the potential Simple Performance Tests (Static Creep and Repeated Load) are conducted at RAPL on an MTS 810 test frame. The servo-hydraulic closed loop feedback system has computer data acquisition for data analysis and testing ease. The system consists of a triaxial cell that allows for the asphalt sample to be tested under confinement, as well as unconfined. The triaxial cell is then enclosed in an environmental chamber to provide a wide range of test temperatures (-20oC to 80oC). The test set-up is even rugged enough to allow resilient modulus testing of aggregates and soils. Figure 16 shows an asphalt core from the field sample ready for testing. Figure 17 shows the coring set-up used for the preparation of the test specimens. Figure 18 provides the dynamic modulus master curve developed for the mix tested. The sample was tested at only four temperatures (40, 70, 100, and 130oF).
